We celebrate Hispanic Latinx Heritage Month (HLHM) to honor the rich history and far-reaching influence of the Hispanic and Latinx communities, both within our organization and beyond. The month-long celebration, spanning from September 15 to October 15, is an opportunity to learn, engage and give back.

UNIDOS, our Employee Resource Group (ERG) for Hispanic and Latinx colleagues at Moderna, plays a key role in organizing these celebrations. UNIDOS, meaning "united" in Spanish, reflects its mission to foster, support and empower Hispanic and Latinx individuals, while promoting intercultural understanding and diversity.

This year, our UNIDOS ERG organized a series of events under the theme "Celebrating Diversity, Building Connections,” with the goal of promoting cultural awareness, professional development and community engagement within Moderna and beyond. These events, such as an HLHM 5K run and in-office celebrations with colorful decorations, diverse Latin American cuisine and lively entertainment, provided a meaningful way for colleagues to experience the traditions and flavors of Latin America. Salsa lessons offered at a few of our offices also added an extra element of fun.

I am deeply proud to celebrate HLHM, which highlights the inclusive culture and diverse thinking that drive innovation at Moderna. It is through these unique perspectives that we continue to push the boundaries of science and make meaningful contributions to global health. Spending so much of our time at work, I’m motivated to excel when my company reciprocates this support.

A few of our colleagues and UNIDOS members shared what HLHM means to them:

“Celebrating Hispanic Heritage at Moderna means connecting with people that understand your history and can celebrate the beautiful commonalities between cultures. It’s also the opportunity to share your heritage with colleagues.”

- Belinda, Manager, Aggregate Safety Reporting

“Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month at Moderna is a vital reminder of the diverse perspectives that enrich the biotech field, showcasing the contributions of our communities to science and innovation. As a Latina in biotech, it inspires me to advocate for greater representation and to empower others to pursue careers in STEM.”

- Melissa, Manager, INT Patient Scheduling

“What Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month at Moderna means to me is the empowerment and embracing of our diverse roots—inspiring the innovative ideas to create a healthier, more inclusive world.”

- Isabelle, Associate II, Quality Systems and Engineering
