Giving Back During Moderna’s 5th Annual Volunteer Week

by Moderna

Giving back to the communities where we live and work is an integral part of who we are and what we do. Each year between Giving Tuesday and International Volunteer Day, we organize our annual Volunteer Week during which our teams across the globe come together to make a difference in their local communities and support those in need.

This year marked our 5th Annual Volunteer Week, and it was our most significant one yet. Teams from across 15 countries helped to make a positive impact in our communities with more than 30 nonprofits around the globe. The number of employees who volunteered also increased significantly, more than tripling our impact from 2022. Both in-person and remote volunteer options were available to support those looking to do in-office team building and for employees unable to travel.

In the U.S., volunteers prepared meals at the Pine Street Inn, assembled kits for Operation Christmas Child, brought Heading Home congregate homes to life, wrote notes of love and encouragement for patients battling cancer at Hope Lodge, and mentored Year Up students amongst other initiatives.

Globally, teams from countries across EMEA and APAC aided their local communities through initiatives such as preparing individual donation shipments for From Basel with Love, distributing food and beverages with Münchner Tafel to Munich families living in poverty, assisting the CoCo Farm Winery in helping people with intellectual disabilities become independent, and supporting physically challenged residents with the Eden Social Welfare Foundation.

Our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy serves as a guidepost and demonstrates our deep responsibility to patients, the environment, our communities and each other.  Last week, we held our second annual ESG Day to review and highlight our progress on medicines for patients, our environmental impact, employees and culture, impact in our community, and governance and ethics. We’re immensely thankful to our teams and nonprofit partners around the globe for their commitment and dedication and for helping to make a positive impact in our communities this Volunteer Week.
