Moderna Celebrates Grand Opening of New Global Headquarters

Last week, we celebrated the official opening of our global headquarters in Cambridge, MA with a ceremony that was well-attended by more than 1,000 employees, Massachusetts dignitaries, partners, and other important members of our Company’s ecosystem. This purpose-built space is intended to fuel Moderna's next chapter of discovery as we embark on our mission to deliver the greatest possible impact to people through mRNA medicines. The structure of the building is designed to create an environment where innovation can thrive, integrating digital-first, modular research and development labs with unique collaborative spaces. At Moderna, we believe that human and planetary health are interconnected, so at the heart of the design was our commitment to minimizing our environmental footprint as we grow.

The highlight of our grand opening week was our official ribbon cutting ceremony, during which our CEO, Stéphane Bancel, and Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey delivered inspiring remarks – both noting the vibrancy of the life sciences sector in Massachusetts and Moderna’s origins in Cambridge.

Moderna also showcased our commitment to inspiring the next generation of STEM leaders with a “STEM Carnival” in partnership with Life Science Cares. The day began with employee volunteers assembling more than 100 STEM kits to be donated to local students through the non-profit, STEAM Ahead. STEAM Ahead works to uplift historically underrepresented communities by delivering transformative STEAM programs to close the education gap. In addition to science activities to inspire young minds, the kits included inspirational handwritten notes of encouragement from Moderna employees.

In the afternoon, more than 20 students grades 7-9 from Alexander Twilight Academy joined us at our headquarters for a building tour and science experiments conducted by our very own employees. Alexander Twilight Academy admits students from under-resourced urban schools in 5th grade and commits to supporting them and their families on their journey through the nation’s best high schools and colleges. From lava lamps made with kitchen supplies to learn concepts like buoyancy and polarity, to building a marble roller coaster featuring concepts like kinetic energy, the students had a blast.

Thank you to all our partners, community members, and employees who joined us in celebrating this momentous occasion. We look forward to what’s to come in this new, cutting-edge space as we work to develop and commercialize new mRNA medicines for the benefit of patients worldwide.
