Moderna Candidate Privacy Notice
Effective April 1, 2026
Moderna recognizes the importance of protecting your personal data. This Privacy Notice explains how Moderna Inc. and its worldwide affiliates (“Moderna”, “we”, “our” or “us”) collects, stores, uses, retains (processes) your personal data when you apply for a job with Moderna. This notice supplements the general Moderna Privacy Statement.
Application for a position at Moderna should only be submitted through our career website.
What information is collected
During the application and selection process for a position at Moderna we will, in compliance with applicable legislation, collect and process personal data about yourself such as:
Identification and contact details: e.g. name, address, email;
Professional history: e.g. CV, qualifications, references, your profile on a professional social media platform1;
Background information: e.g. education and academic as well as professional qualifications;
Financial information: e.g. current and salary expectations, company allowances, bonus, benefits, working time, bank details if we reimburse you for expenses during the recruitment process;
Assessment data: e.g. interview notes, screening results;
Audio and Video recording of the interviews (where permitted by law);
Sensitive information, only where relevant, necessary, and permitted or required by law: e.g. Residency and work permit status, health conditions, disability status, ethnicity, veteran status. In case you provide us with special categories of personal data, you hereby explicitly consent to the processing of these data as described herein;
Any other information you choose to provide us during the application process (including follow up while you answer post-application surveys)
Please note: Provision of non-sensitive information, such as details about your work experience, is essential for evaluating your applications and matching open job postings. Without this information, we may be unable to consider your application. The provision of sensitive information nevertheless is voluntary; choosing not to share this kind of data will not impact your application in any way.
1 For the avoidance of any doubt, data contained in social networks or websites that have no business and employment-oriented context, are not considered as personal data relevant for the application and are therefore not collected and processed by us.
Once we want to offer you a position following a formal interview process, we may need additional information to prepare for the employment relation, such as:
National identifiers: e.g. your national ID/passport, residency and work permit status, social security number, or other taxpayer/government identification number;
Financial information: e.g. bank account details, benefit and insurance details, retirement account information;
Dependents' information: e.g. for emergency contact or benefit/insurance plan purposes, information related to your spouse/partner and dependents such as first and last names, dates of birth, contact details. Please note that we assume that you have permission to provide this information to us;
Background verification: e.g. pre-employment screening using additional background information such as credit history, criminal records and occupational health information (if permitted by law);
Sensitive Information: only based on consent where relevant and necessary or when required by law, e.g. information about your health (physical or mental) so we can give health and insurance benefits to you and your dependents. Additional sensitive information that is required for employment, such as e.g. health conditions, religion, for some roles and if the legislation of your country authorizes it, information about criminal background.
When based on Consent: Declaration of consent For processing special categories of personal data (in the meaning of the applicable data privacy law, e.g. information concerning your health) in your application and/or candidate information, by providing sensitive information you hereby explicitly consent, that such data may be processed as described in this Privacy Notice. You are free to withdraw your consent at any time with future effect. If you wish to withdraw your consent, you can do so via our career web page under “search options and privacy” in your candidate profile, or by sending us an email at candidatedata@modernatx.com.
We collect your personal data either directly from you or from select, approved recruitment agencies with whom we partner. We may also get information from references you give us, from pre-employment checks, or from public sources (if allowed by law), such as site verifying licenses.
How and why we use your information
As part of the application process, we may use an Artificial Intelligence (AI) system to support and enhance our recruitment activities.
The AI system may assist by reviewing your application materials, identifying relevant skills and experiences, help us to schedule interviews with you, and generating initial insights for our Human Resources team. Importantly, all AI-assisted evaluations are subject to human oversight and are not the sole basis for any hiring decisions. We are committed to using AI in a responsible and transparent manner. Accordingly:
We take appropriate measures to identify and mitigate algorithmic bias and other risks associated with AI-assisted decision-making.
You have the right to request additional human review of any AI-supported outcome, object to the use of AI in your application process or exercise any other rights available to you under applicable law by using the contact information provided in this Privacy Statement.
During the application process, we will use your personal data for the following purposes:

We use the personal information of minors only if the job is meant for an apprentice. Depending on the legal definition of underage, we might require the prior consent of your parents or legal guardians to collect and use your personal information for the purposes mentioned above.
Who has access to your personal data
Persons who are involved in the recruitment and onboarding process will have access to your personal data.
Moderna may use service providers to collect and process data as processors, acting on behalf of Moderna, e.g. event and travel agencies, pre-employment screening providers, auditors.
Moderna is a multinational organization with headquarters in the United States, therefore, we may need to transfer and use your personal information outside of the country where we collect it from you. When we transfer your personal information outside of your home country, we apply appropriate safeguards to protect it, such as data transfer agreements that include the necessary protections, for example, the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission. Please note that the data privacy laws in the destination countries may differ from those in your home country.
How long we will keep your data
When you apply for a job at Moderna, we will keep your application data as long as necessary to complete the recruitment process for the job to which you applied. Unless you object, we will retain your application and related data for up to 2years after your last activity, to consider you for new roles (the duration may be shorter in some countries due to local legislation). At any time, you may request us to delete the data earlier.
Your rights
You have the right to request access to your personal information processed by Moderna and to request the correction or deletion of any inaccurate information or object to the processing. You also have, depending on the jurisdiction, the right to request portability of your data. Most of this can be done by accessing your profile in Workday and making the changes online.
