Building Systems with a Purpose: Marta’s Story at Moderna
When Marta Jancz transitioned from the lab bench to biotech strategy, she was searching for more than a new role—she was seeking meaningful impact. With a background in biotechnology and experience across clinical trials, commercial analytics and medical affairs, Marta joined Moderna with a clear goal: to help build systems that are dynamic, agile and purpose-driven.
“I didn’t want to just follow a job description,” she says. “I wanted to help shape how things are done, and Moderna felt like the kind of place where that was possible.” Now, nearly two years in, Marta doing exactly that—transforming field medical operations with strategy, structure and innovation.
Driving Field Medical Excellence
As Associate Director of Field Medical Strategy and Planning, Marta focuses on how Moderna’s field medical teams operate. She leads the transformation of medical insights into comprehensive reports that inform strategy and guide engagement with physicians. “These reports are about making sure voices across the field are heard and recognized,” she explains.
She’s also helping the team stay aligned on what matters most. “I’ve developed a framework to guide our work and show the impact we’re making,” she says. “It helps us focus our efforts and make sure we’re contributing in the right ways.”
Her work is helping to build a culture rooted in visibility, accountability and creativity. “People feel recognized not only for meeting KPIs, but for offering ideas and insights.”
Marta is also one of the driving forces behind Moderna’s use of AI in medical affairs. She’s helped introduce GPT tools across the organization and is currently piloting an AI agent to automate parts of the advisory board process, saving time and improving consistency.
What’s even more exciting, she says, is how quickly others are getting involved. “At Moderna, people are building their own GPTs and weaving them into their workflows,” she explains. “It’s been exciting to watch that shift—seeing teams go from curiosity to real adoption, using these tools to save time and work more effectively.”
Still, she’s clear that technology alone isn’t the solution. “It’s about more than access. People need tools that deliver real value, tailored to their role, region and compliance needs.”
When asked how she manages the high demands of her role, Marta credits a culture of support. “My manager has been incredibly empowering. And I’ve seen real care from colleagues. That kind of thoughtfulness, in a high-pressure environment, makes all the difference.”
She also finds purpose in helping others manage their workload. “Sometimes I’m building strategy. Sometimes I’m scheduling a meeting. It’s about supporting our field teams so they can spend their time where it matters most, engaging with physicians and helping to advance patient care.”
Looking Ahead
Marta is especially excited about Moderna’s expanding pipeline, particularly in oncology and rare diseases. “This is where mRNA can prove itself again and potentially make a difference for patients in desperate need of new options,” she says.
For Marta, being a changemaker is about persistence. “You won’t always be heard the first time but if you believe in something, you keep showing up, speaking up and pushing forward,” she reflects.
“This place moves fast. It demands flexibility, but it’s also full of opportunity. If you’re energized by that kind of environment, you’ll discover new strengths and new ways to grow. I’m excited for what’s next.”
